Hi there, Namaste !
Welcome to our platform after a long. I am Sailesh Nepal from Nepal, a novice blogger and technology enthusiast. In this article I’m gonna share you the method to format your USB thumb drive using windows command prompt with step by step pictorial guide. I’ll also be adding video tutorial in near future based on the response to this article.
I got lots of queries since two week from my friends having difficulty to format pen-drive using utility software so it’s my first try to help you guys. Lets move further without any delay..
How to Format USB Flash Drive from Command Prompt
STEP 1: Open Windows Command Prompt with admin privilege as shown below or you can use another method to open it as in step 2.
STEP 2: Start Run by typing “Windows” Key and “R” at the same time as shown. Type a command “cmd” and press Enter.
NOTE: You can use one from step 1 and step 2 to open command prompt. Step 1 is recommended.
STEP 3: Windows Command Prompt will open as shown below.
STEP 4: Insert your Pen Drive to USB port and then type diskpart
command as below and press Enter. (Disk Partition directory DISKPART> will be shown.)
STEP 5: Type listdisk
command as below to check if your drive is inserted properly to USB port or not. (Note out your drive number here. Mine is 1. You need to be sure on the storage capacity of your drive to note exact drive number. My drive capacity was 16 GB so I’m sure that drive with 15 GB usable memory is mine. )
STEP 6: Type select disk 1
command to format it as shown in figure below.
STEP 7: Type clean
command to format it as shown in figure below.
At last, you’ll get notification message “DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.” and Cheers!!! YOUR PEN DRIVE IS FORMATTED NOW. WUHUH!!!
Please don’t forget to leave your feedback as comment. Stay tuned and subscribe our blog for future updates.
Thanks and see you.
